Founder of USIDHR Addresses Sustainable Development Diplomacy at Forum in Romania

The Sustainable Development Diplomacy Forum 2024, held in Bucharest, hosted by UCCBR and the Institute for Sustainable Development Diplomacy gathered distinguished leaders, diplomats, and experts to address the critical intersections of sustainable development and international policies. The event, known for advancing sustainable development goals (SDGs) through cooperation and the exchange of best practices, featured insightful discussions and presentations from prominent figures in the field.

The forum commenced with opening remarks from Professor Dr. Nasty Vladoiu, President of the Union of Bilateral Chambers of Commerce from Romania. Dr. Vladoiu outlined the forum's objectives, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic efforts in achieving sustainable development and fostering international partnerships.

Panel 1: Policies and Strategies for Sustainable Development

The first panel brought together ambassadors from various countries, each sharing their nation's strategies for sustainable development. H.E. Rim Kap-Soo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in Bucharest, highlighted Korea's commitment to green technology and renewable energy. H.E. Hassan Abouyoub, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Morocco in Bucharest, discussed Morocco's advancements in sustainable agriculture and solar energy projects. H.E. Massimo Baggi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation in Bucharest, shared Switzerland's efforts in reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability. Mr. Stelian Matei, Senior Advisor at Romania's Sustainable Development Department, provided insights into Romania's national policies aimed at achieving the SDGs.

Panel 2: International Collaboration in the Field of Sustainable Development

The second panel focused on international collaboration, featuring Stefania Racolta Cruceru, Head of EU Green Finance & Country Analytics at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, who discussed the role of green finance in supporting sustainable projects across Europe. Dr. Isabelle Vladoiu, Founding President of the US Institute for Diplomacy and Human Rights, delivered a compelling speech, stating, "Sustainable development is about creating a world where everyone can thrive now and in the future. But this vision cannot be realized without respecting and upholding human rights. Sustainable development and human rights are two sides of the same coin; one cannot exist without the other."

Panel 3: Innovation and Sustainability in the Private Sector

The final panel explored the role of innovation and the private sector in driving sustainability. Alina Gabor, General Director of UCCBR, discussed the private sector's contribution to sustainable economic growth. Nistor Grigorescu, President of the Chamber for Sustainable Development Diplomacy with the Kingdom of Morocco, highlighted successful collaborations between Moroccan and international businesses. Tatiana Tihon, President of the Chamber for Sustainable Development Diplomacy with the People's Republic of China, provided insights into China's innovative approaches to sustainability. Bogdan Ene, President of the Chamber for Sustainable Development Diplomacy with the Principality of Monaco, emphasized Monaco's investments in green technology. Cosmina Mahara, President of the Chamber for Sustainable Development Diplomacy with the Italian Republic and CEO of AGRIRO FRESH, shared best practices in sustainable agriculture. Dan Cosaşu, Vice President of UCCBR and CEO of EDAS EXIM, concluded with a discussion on the importance of sustainable trade practices.

The Sustainable Development Diplomacy Forum 2024 underscored the vital role of diplomacy, international cooperation, and innovative strategies in achieving the SDGs. The event fostered meaningful dialogue and set the stage for future collaborations aimed at building a sustainable and equitable world.
