USIDHR Gains Official Recognition from the Organization of American States

Date 03.17.2025

The U.S. Institute of Diplomacy and Human Rights (USIDHR) has reached a major milestone, receiving official recognition as a registered civil society organization within the Organization of American States (OAS) . This prestigious status strengthens USIDHR’s ability to actively engage in OAS initiatives, contributing to regional discussions on human rights, democracy, security, and development.

The OAS, founded in 1948, is the world’s oldest regional organization, uniting 35 independent states across the Americas to promote democratic values, protect human rights, and advance social and economic development. Through its Civil Society Participation Program, the OAS fosters collaboration with organizations like USIDHR to drive meaningful change and policy reform across the region.

“This recognition marks a significant step forward in our mission to advocate for human rights, combat human trafficking and femicide, and empower vulnerable communities, especially women and indigenous populations,” said Dr. Isabelle Vladoiu, Founder of USIDHR. “Being part of the OAS network allows us to work alongside policymakers, civil society leaders, and international organizations to create lasting impact.”

As a globally recognized nonprofit think tank headquartered in Washington, D.C., USIDHR has trained over18,000 human rights consultants across more than 135 countries. Its programs provide education and resources to individuals and organizations working to uphold human rights, prevent gender-based violence, and foster inclusive diplomatic relations.

By joining the OAS Civil Society Participation Program, USIDHR is poised to expand its advocacy efforts, contribute to key policy discussions, and collaborate on initiatives that align with the OAS’s core mission of promoting justice, security, and sustainable development.

This achievement reflects a collective victory for all who champion human rights and diplomacy. As USIDHR embarks on this new chapter, it remains committed to forging strong partnerships and driving meaningful change across the Americas.
