Diplomatic Roundtable at USIDHR Headquarters

Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Queen Marie of Romania's Historic Visit to the United States

ABOUT THE EVENT

Private Diplomatic Roundtable: A Historic Diplomatic Gathering in Washington, DC

There are moments in diplomacy that transcend ordinary events and become spaces where international relationships, influence, and global dialogue truly come alive. The headquarters of the US Institute of Diplomacy and Human Rights in Washington, DC became one such space during the exclusive Private Diplomatic Roundtable, proudly co-hosted by Association DAR and USIDHR.

With representatives connected to more than 25 embassies, UN representation, and international diplomatic missions present, the room reflected the spirit of modern diplomacy: nations united through dialogue, cultural exchange, and international cooperation. From the Caribbean to Africa, from the Middle East to Eastern Europe, distinguished diplomats, embassy representatives, international delegates, and business leaders gathered under one roof — surrounded by the flags of nations from across the globe.

At the heart of the gathering was a centennial commemoration: the 100th Anniversary of Queen Marie of Romania's historic visit to the United States. As conversations centered around her enduring diplomatic legacy, the event became a living reflection of the very ideals she championed a century ago — international cooperation, cultural diplomacy, and global engagement beyond borders.

The roundtable was honored to hear from Ambassador Dr. Hugues Sanon, internationally recognized peace ambassador, global leader, and representative of the Council for Justice, Equality and Peace, whose remarks underscored the critical importance of diplomacy and international unity in today's world.

Distinguished remarks were also delivered by Mrs. Chahinda Emadeldin Hassan, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Egypt, whose presence highlighted the depth of diplomatic dialogue and international partnership between nations. Representing The Bahamas, Mrs. Lynreshay Johnson, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of The Bahamas, shared reflections on cultural diplomacy and the power of international engagement to strengthen global understanding.

The audience was equally inspired by Mrs. Andreea Rebaltescu, Founder and CEO of Sun Media Shine, business leader, artist, and media personality, who offered a distinctive perspective on media, culture, and international connection. In a special and memorable moment, she performed a private signing of a beloved Romanian song that brought emotion, culture, and diplomacy together in a way that captivated the entire room.

This was more than a conference. It was a rare diplomatic environment where meaningful international relationships were built, ideas were exchanged among global leaders, and diplomacy was experienced in its most authentic form.

DIPLOMATIC ROUNDTABLE IN ACTION

ACTIVITIES

The Private Diplomatic Roundtable opened with high-level discussions on diplomacy beyond borders, global leadership, cross-cultural engagement, and the enduring diplomatic legacy of Queen Marie of Romania. Delegates engaged in substantive dialogue that reflected the full breadth of modern international relations — spanning continents, cultures, and fields of expertise.

The event also featured a distinguished speaking program that brought together voices from across the diplomatic world, offering perspectives on peace, partnership, cultural exchange, and the role of diplomacy in shaping a more just and cooperative global order.

Beyond the formal sessions, the gathering created space for genuine connection. Diplomats and delegates from more than 25 embassies and international missions exchanged ideas across disciplines and borders, building the kind of relationships that formal negotiations alone cannot produce.

The roundtable concluded with a heartfelt recognition of the partnership between USIDHR and Association DAR, whose shared commitment to cultural diplomacy and humanitarian impact has helped hundreds of underprivileged children in Romania access education through Edu Boxes filled with essential school supplies. Real diplomacy, as the day demonstrated, is not only built in conference rooms. It is built through compassion, partnership, and the commitment to create lasting change in people's lives.

The spirit of Queen Marie of Romania — a leader who believed in the power of international friendship and dignified cooperation — was present in every exchange, every handshake, and every conversation that filled the room.
